Enjoy excellent training, career opportunities, great culture, competitive pay and great benefits

If you combine solid customer service skills and some experience in retail and/or optical, with a positive attitude, attention to detail, and the motivation to learn and grow professionally, the Optician position offers many strong advantages. You will:
  • Enjoy strong training and the ability to use your experience to support our customers and make a positive customer service experience. We'll provide the training and environment you need for success.
  • Showcase your potential to take on additional responsibilities and advance; we are committed to hiring from within whenever possible.
  • Join a friendly, fun, and engaging team in a high energy environment where patient care is our #1 priority.
  • Enjoy the best of both worlds -- the friendly feeling and open culture of a family practice, but with the stability and resources of a growing global organization. Essilor, our parent company, has recently merged with Luxottica to make it the world's largest player in the eyewear industry.
  • Earn a competitive wage, quarterly bonus opportunities based on KPIs, and first-rate benefits, as well as work/life balance. You'll work 8am-5pm Monday through Friday with no weekend or holiday work required.

Founded in 1993, Vision Associates was built to provide optical dispensary management and consulting expertise to busy ophthalmic practices.  The need for such services had become increasingly evident, as practices were realizing that maximizing dispensary profits required far more than simply hiring an optician and displaying eyeglass frames. Our comprehensive approach to optical dispensary management represented a much-needed break from the prevailing “gift shop” mentality that had caused dispensary profits to stagnate at many practices.  As a result, we quickly grew to become a leader in this burgeoning niche industry. In 2002, Vision Associates’ optical laboratory facility was acquired by Essilor Labs of America, the nation’s leading lens manufacturer.

Essilor of America, Inc. is the leading manufacturer of eyeglass lenses in the United States, employs more than 7,000 people and operates the largest and most comprehensive optical laboratory network in the U.S. Essilor of America, Inc. is a subsidiary of Paris-based Essilor International. Essilor manufactures optical lenses under the Varilux®, Crizal®, Transitions®, and other brands, and our products are worn by one billion people daily. Essilor has been on Forbes' list of the World's 100 Most Innovative Companies every year since 2010.

Reporting to the District Manager, you’ll work to engage with patients and provide excellent customer service. Along with the team, you will be responsible for all facets of running the dispensary side of our operation, so you will need to learn and support the procedures necessary for opening, closing, and operating the dispensary.

Your main goal will be to engage with patients to ensure they are well cared for, and to drive sales based on the prescriptions provided by the optical practice side. This means you’ll talk through the patient’s lifestyle, and discuss frame and lens options to fit those needs. You’ll also complete repairs and adjustments, fill in the appropriate paperwork and check for accuracy, complete notification and follow up calls, and provide a high level of customer service.

You’ll also act as a bridge to the practice side, engaging with the doctors and the entire medical team, and behaving as a liaison to ensure everyone has the information they need and that the entire team is pulling together in the same direction.

Some of your specific tasks will be to:
  • Meet and/or exceed pre-established company goals for Sales, Collections, KPIs and Patient Experience expectations.
  • Listen and respond immediately with an appropriate level of concern to all patient and practice issues.
  • Analyze, solve, and correct customer service issues.
  • Ensure best practices are being delivered so that patients are satisfied and make their purchases with the optical dispensary.
  • Communicate directly and promptly any concerns related to patient or practice satisfaction to the District Manager.
  • Foster positive working relationships with the practice doctors, leadership, and staff.
  • You may from time to time be required to perform tasks not specifically listed here, but the company will ensure that you have received adequate training and support to facilitate such assigned tasks.
Note: this description is intended to give you a general overview of the position and is not an exhaustive listing of duties and responsibilities.

Professional development
You'll enjoy training to acquaint you with our culture and business, as well as your role. This may include online certifications within our Essilor training program, but could extend to helping you pass the advanced licensure and certification exams as well. We're committed to ensuring you thrive at Essilor.

Career options
History shows that strong performers can advance their careers at Vision Associates. In addition to local opportunities, you could pursue future growth with Essilor, such as becoming an optical lead, team leader, or eventually an area manager, at multiple locations throughout the nation. Unlike at a smaller practice, development and coaching are all part of the package with Essilor.

Strong team
You will join a team that includes dedicated, smart and mutually supportive professionals who come to work with a positive attitude, and who enjoy working together. We are looking for someone who can become part of our 'family' in the department. Everyone shows up to do their best every day for the team, and the right fit here is someone who is willing to step in when needed, just as every member of the team is willing to do.

Truly living our values
At Essilor, we believe everyone deserves to see life and all its detail with the best vision possible. That's why, in addition to designing, manufacturing and distributing quality vision care solutions worldwide, we invest in raising awareness of the importance of good vision, support eyecare professionals, invent new technologies and products, and support philanthropic initiatives. For example, the Essilor Vision Foundation partners with schools, eye doctors, and communities to provide eye exams and glasses to underserved children at no cost to their families. We also are committed to robust standards for environmental sustainability. These are just a couple of reasons we were one of the 52 companies named to Fortune magazine's 2019 Change the World list.

Excellent compensation
In addition to a competitive hourly wage, we offer an exceptional mix of first-rate benefits, including medical, dental and vision plans; a 401(k) plan with company match; comprehensive training through Essilor University; lens and frame benefits for you and your family; an employee stock purchase plan with company match; and more.

Video: As part of the #DifferenceMakers campaign, Essilor chose four eyecare professionals and three Essilor employees to participate in a mission trip to Southeast Asia in March 2019.

This is a fast-paced environment, fit for a true multi-tasker. To excel here, you’ll constantly be working to ensure our patients have the best experience, which means being aware of your surroundings – while you’re working with one patient and tending to their needs, you’ll have the waiting patient at the back of your mind, moving everyone through the process efficiently.

Our ideal candidate is self-motivated, organized and detail-oriented, and has a high level of maturity to interact professionally with patients and members of the optical practice alike. You’ll spend a great deal of your time communicating, so you’ll need to have polished written and verbal communication skills. This is not a job where you’ll sit behind the desk and wait, but instead you should actively engage with patients and providers. We’re also looking for someone who can think ‘outside of the box’ in terms of engagement and capture rate, and who brings creative ideas on how to increase sales.

In addition, to be an outstanding Optician, you will:
  • Bring a proactive approach to learning and getting up to speed quickly
  • Support our commitment to getting quality right the first time
  • Achieve goals independently and also contribute as a team player
  • Manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively
  • Remain flexible and adaptable as processes change
  • Bring a commitment to our mission and goals
